This historical, cultural and administrative center of Nizhny Novgorod was built in 1500 as a Middle-Age stronghold, and it was taken by an enemy. This is the world’s only private art gallery that exhibits images created using a unique technique called “floral mosaics”. To create his works the artist, A. N. Yurkov, has been using only glue and parts of leaves from different trees and grasses. His workmanship is, however, so delicate and precise that no one can really grasp it. The Annunciation Monastery founded in the 13th century was an outpost that guarded the city from the south, from the side of the Oka river. Today five churches and three cloister buildings make up the architectural complex, which is enclosed by a low stone wall.
