What to see in Nuremberg

Nuremberg Castle

The Nuremberg Castle is an architectural complex which includes the Emperor’s Castle, the castle of the imperial city and the burgrave castle. We suggest that you go and see the Round Tower from which you can admire a great view on the city, as well as the Deep Well which was cut deep into the rock in order to secure water supply to the castle.

German National Museum in Nuremberg

German National Museum in Nuremberg is the largest museum in Germany preserving over 1.3 millions of works, among which there are paintings and sculptures of German master artists from the Middle Ages and early Renaissance. In the prehistoric section make sure that you view the Golden Cone from Ezelsdorf.

Nuremberg Zoo

Nuremberg Zoo with its dolphinarium is a very popular place. You can see the Indian rhinoceros, African elephant, zebras, giraffes, bisons (buffaloes), deer, horses, kangaroos, ostriches, many species of birds and also Flocke (“snowflake” in German), a little polar bear who became the zoo’s symbol.

Hauptmarkt (Main Market) of Nuremberg

Hauptmarkt (Main Market) of Nuremberg is the location of the traditional Christmas fair where one can taste the famous Nuremberg gingerbreads. The Hauptmarkt is dominated by the unique Gothic Frauenkirche (Our Lady's Church).

Toy Museum

Toy Museum is a heavenly experience not only for children. On its four floors you will see the most interesting collection of old puppets, doll’s houses, soft toys and super-modern electronic toys of our time.

Restaurants

When in Nuremberg, one must taste fried Bratwürste (Nuremberg sausages), which most restaurants serve with sauerkraut or mashed potatoes; also try Lebkuchen (gingerbread). All this is available at the legendary Bratwursthäusle restaurant or in the establishments on Königstraße (King’s street).

Festivals

Volksfest is a beer festival which is organized twice a year gathering over one million guests. Rock im Park is an outdoor rock music festival and Klassik Open Air is a classical music festival that are both very popular with the guests of the city and local citizen.

Walks through the Old Town

The spirit of real Nuremberg is best appreciated in the Old Town. The harmony of its architectural ensemble and the famous middle-age Nuremberg Castle attract travelers from all over the globe. Walk on stone bridges across the Pegnitz river, go to the viewing platforms in the castle or on the watchtower.
